Some consider it as a grown men toy others are not afraid of being kids again...

I´m in this second category and I found out radio-controlled cars as a great way to have fun. I remember being young and loving every little RC car my friends and I had and we usually went outside to play with them.

I had some very simple ones and most of them were not even radio controlled, they were connected with the control by an electric wire which transmitted all the commands to the car.

In those days good RC cars were very expensive for a kid`s toy and I never got one that could really satisfy me.

Now that I´m a grown kid and I´m lucky that those cars are less expensive as well as much more powerful I decided to buy a little 1/18 scale electric RC buggy.

The fact that I like to play outside made me chose for a 1/18 scale 4WD (four wheel drive) off-road buggy. This way I can play in almost every kind of ground without becoming stuck.

Being a small 1/18 scale electric RC car the Associated Team RC18B it is very easy to carry everywhere and finding good places where to play with it is also very easy.

Of course there are other brands and models you can choose but you can be sure you will have plenty of fun out of every one of them.

I do not know about you but I spent some time trying to learn how to control this little four wheeled devil, and I believe this was a good choice to start with.

If you never had a modern electric RC car you should start with small scale models as bigger and faster ones will make it even harder to control and avoid big cra$hes.

Now that I already wasted a set of tires I can definitely recommend this RC buggy.

Considering its size the RC18B it is very fast and stable over bumps and jumps.

It starts to have some control issues every time you use it on rough surfaces with larger stones which does not allow the car to go straight jumping all over. That is way you will need a bigger RC car if you are going to use it outside tracks.

It is easy to find replacement parts for the RC18 and this is very important if you are starting because accidents are most certain to occur and because you will go crazy if you can not repair it soon... every time I had mine stopped waiting for parts I almost went mad wanting to play with it.

If you have no experience with RC cars, then you should expect some "forced" upgrades.

Beside the normal wear of some parts an accident can happen each time you use the car, so it is not unusual for a beginner to break something now and then.

In my case, after some incidents I saw myself forced to buy some replacement parts: a bigger front bumper, a front shock kit, a new set of tires and another battery in order to extend the fun every time I drive the buggy.

After playing several times with the 1/18 Team Associated I feel like I need a bigger one.

Not that the Team Associated is small but if you want to play on rougher terrains you will need a RC car that can take the impacts without loosing control and direction.

My choice went to a XSTR 1/10 scale buggy which is affordable, it has a good size and weight, and looks pretty resistant.

Later I will make a review of this one to confirm if it was a good choice.

I finally got a 1/10 scale electric rc car like promised.

The XSTR I bought comes with a RC540 motor with a heat proof cover.

Even though this motor works very well its performance it is not what I was expecting.

Perhaps the fact that it did not came with the brushless motor (there are two versions) and the car`s weight (much more than the RC18B) makes it a slower acceleration car if compared with my smaller 1/18 rc buggy.

I will keep this motor but I am curious about how it will perform with a good brushless motor.

Lets see what happens... maybe this one will break soon and I will have no choice but buying a brushless motor upgrade. LOL

I can only imagine how it will perform after such upgrade.
