Laptop`s History
As the word tells us it is a portable personal computer which can be placed on your lap. Beside this feature and the fact that it has a battery a laptop is just like every other computer and has all the components we can find on any desktop computer.
Even though it can also be called as Notebook a Laptop can perform like any other computer and there are already very powerful laptop machines nowadays. And the best thing is they are getting cheaper everyday.
But it has not always been like this, when the first notebook took form back in 1982 it was only used by NASA and the military due to his high price ($8150). And only a year later the first laptop was commercialized - the Gavilan SC laptop.
Since then the portable computers have evolved to become as powerful as their "cousins" the desktop computers.

Pros of Laptop Computers
Every time someone tries to compare the advantages of both desktops and laptops, the portability factor always come into the equation.
The small size of laptops and the ability to work everywhere with the power from the battery made them the right choice for many people around the world. And that lead to cheaper prices and more powerful machines available today.

Dual Core Processors
A dual core processor contains two cores or central processing units (CPU) connected together.
This makes the processing process must faster and allows multitasks like watching a video while making a larger download or running a anti-virus program.
Lately Intel launch the i3, i5 and i7 processors which allow even better performances.
Dual Core Laptops Under $1000
Every time I remember how much I paid for my first laptop back in 1995 I become truly mad... today I would be able to buy more than 3 much more efficient machines with the same amount of money.
Nowadays there are numerous laptops available and choosing one is not that easy.
Next you will find 10 Dual Core Laptops under $1000 which will make your old laptop or desktop look like an obsolete kettle.
They are ordered randomly because prices are always changing. I started ordering them by their prices but as you should know the most expensive does not always mean better.
So make sure you examine their characteristics carefully to find the one that better fit your needs.

Hi Dink, even though I never owned an Apple I have worked with one and it is really a great machine. As to either you should buy an Apple or any other laptop I would say it will depend on the type of intended use. One thing is for sure, you´ll never regret buying an Apple.
After making your choice don´t forget to come here and share your experience ;)
I would love to have one of these, but...it's not in my budget right now. :(
Nice Hub!
I have a new Compaq at work, These new laptop computers are sweet! I use Autocad and Visio.
How ever, I found at home, a used laptop off from e-bay does all home applications pretty well.
Keep on Hubbing!
Hey, nice chicks Ricardo :D
wow this was way informative sweetie...I would love to get one but am totally lost in this world of computers... The one I have was given to me Brand new by the parents of a boy I took care of and am loving it...but they picked it out for me...I know how to use it but I sure don't think I could go pick a laptop alone...Wanna come and help me>>>LOL ha ha...Thanks tho ...G-Ma :O) Hugs & Peace
I've still got a 1999 Compaq laptop - a great workhorse - can't look up the model just now as I leave it in the UK at my mum's for when I visit her. it has never let me down - but boy is it heavy. I also have one of those tiny little ASUS's - a 900e series. It is great for sticking in my bag, using in cafes etc - and (the main reason I got it) for working on the sofa when I am laid up with a flare-up of fibromyalgia. I doubled it's RAM.
I also have a desk to with a big screen monitor attached which is great for my forex trading and which is where I wor most of the time on my writing.
My daughter has ahd a couple of HP laptops and frankly we've not been impressed with either of them.
Finally, I have a 16GB USB key onto which I store eveything and so can move from computer to computer easily.
Great reviews - we'll be looking for another laptop for Sorrel later this year and will come back to this to read your advice again. Thanks.
Thank you all for passing by ;)
Mulberry - don´t worry they´ll be cheaper soon and you´ll have enough money by then :)
eovery - that´s also another solution, buying second hand can make them more affordable. The other solution is to go for a desktop...
Misha - LOL I suspected you would rather watch pictures of chicks than looking to some laptops... :p
G-Ma - any time my dear, any time... just call me and I´ll fly to help you ;)
Iphigenia - Are you happy with that little Asus? Does it perform OK? BTW, be careful with those USB keys. I have a 4 GB one that ruined some important documents - now I only add documents after compressing them first with winzip or rar (I was told this is the best way to protect them).
Ricardo,
I do use a 'pendrive'...what trouble u faced?
I have a Compaq Presario and it has done me proud for the last 3 years, I am starting to find now though that the 60Gb's I got when I bought it are starting to gradually be eaten up, so the clock is ticking. But 3 years is pretty good in the computing world and I can also start to offload files to an external drive if I want to so I can prolong things for a little while yet.
It is frustrating waiting for the Windows SW to boot up however and I would love an alternative, I have to switch on a good 10 minutes before I actually need to use it to make sure it is ready when I sit down and start to work, some of that time is for anti-virus downloads to finish, they can also eat up your bandwidth and slow things down.
Hi Shyamal, I use pen drives for ages and I never had any problem until the last one I bought (4GB). I had several word and excel files in it and suddenly I couldn´t access them (I kept getting a message saying they were corrupted). The strange thing was that the pen kept working fine after I deleted all those files. Later a friend of mine told me that I should compress all file before putting them into this kind of pen... It never happened again after I started doing so ;)
Hey Brian, thanks for commenting. I also had a Presario and it was a hell of a machine but unfortunately it blew up after a electricity peek... :( Using an external drive it´s a great choice to make your "old" laptop endure a little longer ;)
Thanks for describing laptops one by one. Will definitely take a look in this hub when I plan to buy one.
going to be shopping for a laptop later this summer...bookmarked.
Humph Funride - I went and bought a laptop not long back!
Nice hub!
Hi Ricardo, Daisy and I bought an HP Pavilion dv2000 I don't know if this is the correct model name heheh anyhow, it suits us fine coz we bring it with us if we need to do workshops or seminars. :-) I'm always getting lost when it comes to tech stuff. So glad that somebody help us choose it and within our budget. :-)

I've been thinking about buying a laptop - but I've heard a lot of horror stories about them...
First - I hate HP products and will Never buy another one!
Some of my family has purchased laptops...
One of them overheats, another one weighs a ton and the other one the screen is so hard to read you get a headache just looking at it! And one more, it's impossible to type on that tiny keyboard!
But I'm still looking - so we'll see what happens!
Thanks for all the info on Laptops, FunRide. The wireless chip on my HP Pavillion has just blown, so if the guy can't rebuild it I'm in the market for a new one. Nice Huub!

I'm in the market for my first laptop and I've been saving and scrimping and really have my heart set on an Apple MacBook--the very lowest entry level one. I've never been a Mac user and have some trepidation, but I'm so sick of Microsoft. Apple does have excellent tech support at the Genius Bar, etc. I know I can find cheaper laptops, but with probably the same frustrations of M/Soft. What's your advice?
